31/7 - Jackson

Sorry for not posting for a while... crappy internet connections and no time! We're about to leave for a 5 hour drive to Doswell, Virginia. Since my last post we have visited Six Flags Great Escape, Six Flags New England, Dorney Park and recently visited Six Flags Great Adventure. Most of them were brilliant, with huge and thrilling rides!

Six Flags Great Escape was located on Lake George, and was a little bit of a disapointment due to the lack of rides, however, the water park was quite good. The only really decent ride in the park was a wooden roller coaster called the Comet, which was built in 1927! It was the redeaming feature of the park. For a really old coaster it was actually somewhat smooth. We rode the Comet about 5 times in a row.

Next we ventured forth to Six Flags New England, which is home to Bizarro, the 2nd best coaster in the world. It sure lived up to our expectations! The coaster took you up over 200 feet and then dropped you at a near verticle angle. The ride twisted and turned around the park and passed under a walkway tunnel. Not as good as Millenium Force, but still a brilliant coaster! The view from the top was great; you could see the whole of the park. In the last few hours of one of the days we rode this one four times!

Another great coaster was the Batman coaster. This was our first experience of a florless coaster, in which you ride on top of the track but there is no floor. It was an interesting concept, but quickly became one of my favourite types of coaster. This coaster also featured an inversion called a zero-g roll, which was also great. You were off of your seat through the whole roll! This one was one of the best coasters I've been on!

The next park was Dorney Park, and after a mix-up woth our hotel room we were straight out to theme park, which was conviniently located on the other side of the road. There was no huge coaster here, but there were four coasters that made the park great!

Talon was probably the best coaster in the park! It was a suspended looping coaster that seated four accross a row. I think it had four loops but may have had five... Like 90% of the coasters here it was really smooth! If you've ever been on the Lethal Weapon in queensland it's abit like that, only much bigger and better! Unfortunately this ride was closed for half of one of the days we were at Dorney Park.

Our other favourite coaster in Dorney Park was Hydra, a floorless coaster with 7 inversions! It had an awesome twist out of the station, and although the drop was not awfuly large it did pick up some major speed!

                                                          Mum outside the Hydra line

Some other good coasters were Possessed, which was just like the wicked twister in Cedar Point but only with a twist in one end and Steel Force, which was a 200 foot steel coaster with a very long hill lift! When we saw it we were expecting a rough ride like Magnum XL-200, but it was much, much smoother! The drop on the coaster was very good and you got some decent air-time on some of the hills.

The most recent park we've visited was Six Flags Great Adventure. It had an abundance of coasters, challenging Cedar Point's 'Best Park in the World' reputation. The main two coasters there were El Toro and Kingda Ka.

Kingda Ka is a 458 foot (139 metre) stratacoaster that blasts you from 0-210km/h in 3.5 seconds. These amazing statistics earn it the world record for the tallest coaster and 2nd in the world for speed. After lining up for 2 hours we finally got to ride it, and we came off of it thinking it was good, but not as good as the smaller dragster. Yesterday we rode it in the front... a different story! This coaster totally beats the dragster in the front! It's got a noticeably faster launch, and the view from the top was spectacular! Riding it in the night was awesome aswell!!

Kingda Ka from the 'Ka Park'

El Toro was an equally fantastic wooden coaster. It features a 76 degree drop and reaches speeds of over 75 miles per hour, earning it the title of the 2nd best wooden coaster in the world. The front of this was amazing! But the back was good as well. You were out of your seat for most of the ride, especially the three hills. It was the smoothest wooden coaster we've been on so far, due to it's prefabricated wooden track (it was built in 2006).

This park also had some other great rides, such as Nitro, a sit on top coaster voted as 3rd best in the world, Superman Ultimate Flight, a lie down coaster and the Green Lantern, a stand up coaster only built this year. They were all fantastic, but I've just chosen the best two to talk about. Anyways, Superman was also awesome so here's a photo...

We were also (un)fortunate to have a lightning storm pass over the park. The rides were closed from about 6:30, but it was a spectacular show! We eventually left and I managed to get this shot from the car park...

We just arrived at a new hotel. More updates soon... =)

20/7 - Lake George

Were currently in Lake George; in the last few days we've been on some of the worlds biggest rides! We went to a very famous park called Cedar Point; rated by the golden ticket awards as the worlds best theme parks for 13 years runnin. It contains a mammoth 17 coasters, including the golden tickets 'best coaster in the world', Millenium Force and one of the tallest and fastest coasters, Top Thrill Dragster.

                                                                     Millenium Force

What a great ride! Millenium Force delivered over 2 kilometers of twists and turns. The first drop is amazing! You're over 300 feet in the air and then suddenly plunge towards the ground. It has some big over-banked turns and is also really smooth! Even though it's the best in the world it doesn't loop, but you can definately see why the Golden Ticket Awards liked this coaster!

Maverick was another coaster that we loved! This one featured three inversions and a 95 degree drop! It was quite a long ride too... about 2 minutes in length. There were six trains on the track for this ride, but each train contained only 3 cars. It wasn't very high either, no more than 100 feet. The lines for this were huge, but we broke down while on the stand up coaster, Mantis, so we got skipped straight to the front of the line!

The Raptor was one of mums favourite! It was a bit like the Lethal Weapon, only smoother and bigger, and this coaster seated four accross the track. It flipped you a few times and was great fun to ride! However, the lines were rather large on it, although for a big line it only took about 50 minutes to get through.

The last ride I'll talk about is the Top Thrill Dragster... enough said. This Stratacoaster blasts you up 420 feet (127 meters (metres)) and then brings you back down. It shoots you out at 120 miles per hour... that's a whopping 190 kilometers an hour... (see picture below)

                                                                 Top Thrill Dragster

We also went to Niagara Falls. It was amazing!!! We did the Maid of the Mist boat tour into the mist of the falls and we did a tour of the caves behind the falls. You could feel the spray from miles away! We went to the Canadian side... Border protection is intimidating. We had a great night in Canadia and were sad to leave the falls (but more sad to leave Cedar Point)

15/7 - Sandusky

Yesterday we drove from Mason to Sandusky, or from Kings Island to Cedar Point. We had one full day at Kings Island, as I was sick for the first one. The second day was brilliant! We got to ride some unique rides...

                                                                       DiamondBack

DiamondBack is marketed as the 'biggest, fastest, meanest coaster to ever strike Kings Island'. We rode it twice and it was fantastic! The ride was so smooth, and the harnesses were really cool. For some of the looping rides here you don't get full harnesses, only lap bars. This one doesnt loop, but at 230 feet high it's quite a magnificent ride!

FireHawk was another ride that we loved! It was our first experience of a lie-down coaster. You got strapped into a harness and then tilted back. It felt like you were flying in a fighter jet! This one was mums favourite ride, but Maddy, Dad and I liked another one better...

The Beast was our first experience of a wooden coaster, and it was the best coaser in the park! It lacked the smoothness of all the other rides, but it wasn't too rickety. At 1.4 miles it is the longest wooden coaster in the world! I never though a wooden coaster could be this thrilling, but powering through tunnels at 72 miles per hour on a rickety wooden track is something not to be missed! We also did this ride in the dark, at about 10:30. It added a whole new dimension to the ride. 72 miles an hour, pitch black, 1.4 miles... It felt like you were going to fall off the tracks!

                                                                 The aptly named Beast

There were also some other coasters like Flight of Fear, Adventure Express, Woodstock Express etc. We did our first awesome day at Cedar Point today... More about that later.

11/7 - Cincinnati

                                                                  At Adelaide Airport

Well we made it... Our first flight out to New Zealand was actually quite good! I had some of the nicest mashed potatoes of my life! We were on an Airbus A320, with screens in the back of the seats. We spent about 2 or 3 hours in the Auckland Airport and in that time we had our first brush with fame (as mum calls it... :P) People may remember a Survivour player called 'Coach'; he played two seasons in the last few years.

Coach from Survivour at the Auckland Airport

After we departed Auckland we embarked on the long flight to LA. I couldn't sleep, which was very annoying because I was really tired for Les Miserables later that night. The food was really nice again, and I watched many episodes of 'Arrested Development'. After we got on the gound we got picked up and went to our hotel, which was very nice! It had now been 24 hours with 1 - 2 hours of sleep... time for Les Mis!! We got to the theatre with an abundance of time to spare, so we got a photo infront of this cool fountain!

                                                                     The Cool Fountain
Les Miserables was fantastic! The guy that played Jean Valjean was from broadway and had done 2,900 performances of Les Mis on Broadway. The other main guy, Javert, was also fantastic and had played his character on Broadway. It was the most amazing show! And we had good seats too!

We finally got some sleep and then up at 6:30 again for two more flights; from LA to Denver to Cincinnati. They were alright, but we were really tired and I couldn't sleep... again! So now were in Cincinnati; we have a 35 minute drive to our first themepark, Kings Island, tomorrow. Should be good! It has some big rides!
